Barking may be second nature for most dogs, but it doesn’t start that way. Before they are shouting at squirrels or warning off the mail truck, there’s that unforgettable first bark (often more squeak than woof) and no one is more startled than the puppy themselves. It’s the canine equivalent of hearing your voice on a voicemail for the first time: confusing, a little embarrassing, and totally hilarious. One Golden Retriever puppy recently discovered her voice, and luckily for us, her humans caught the adorably awkward moment on video.

Dogs showering love and care on their pups is a sight to behold. However, what happens when a canine takes in a feline under her wing? See for yourself as this Instagram video captures a dog mom named Perdy winning hearts as she raises a kitten with her newborn puppies. The pet parent captures some beautiful moments of the Dachshund and her little ones in the clip, with the caption reading, “Needless to say, Perdy wins best mom award.”

The bond between dogs and kids is priceless. To reiterate the point, an Instagram video shows a Golden Retriever, Skylar, who cannot hold her excitement when she reunites with her toddler best friend. The reunion also brings joy to the kid, Shalom, as he cannot contain his excited shrieking voice. Explaining the familiar emotion in the caption, the owner wrote, “Nothing beats coming home to your best friend.”

This particular owner is in complete awe of how their adorable Golden Retriever puppy named Hugo gets ready for a peaceful nap time.
